USTB Dingxin Scholarship 2027 — Fully Funded in Beijing
Fully funded Master scholarship in China for International students 2027
A full Chinese university scholarship covering tuition, housing, a monthly allowance and insurance for master's, PhD and bachelor's study in Beijing, China.
Eligibility
- Non-Chinese citizen in good health
- Bachelor's degree and under 40 for master's applicants
- Master's degree and under 45 for PhD applicants
- High school diploma and under 30 for bachelor's applicants
What it covers
The Dingxin Scholarship is the University of Science and Technology Beijing's own award for international students, separate from the Chinese Government Scholarship but administered through the same admissions office. It funds bachelor's, master's and doctoral study at a university known for metallurgy, materials science and engineering, in a city where living costs are high enough that a housing-inclusive award matters.
The full scholarship covers four things: tuition, an on-campus dormitory place, a monthly living allowance and comprehensive medical insurance. Partial awards cover one or more of those components, and the university decides which version an admitted student receives.
Duration follows the programme rather than a fixed grant period: four years for a bachelor's degree, two to three years for a master's, and four years for a doctorate. The university states that funding is not normally extended beyond the study period confirmed at admission, so a delayed thesis is not automatically covered.
Recipients sit an annual review. Passing it continues the funding; failing it can end the award, which is the standard architecture for Chinese university scholarships and a real risk for students who treat the first year as a settling-in period.
Eligibility: who can apply
The rules are set by nationality, age and prior qualification rather than by grades alone, and the age limits are enforced.
Run this self-check:
Are you a non-Chinese citizen in good physical and mental health? Dual nationals holding Chinese citizenship are not eligible.
For a bachelor's programme, do you hold a high school diploma and are you under 30?
For a master's programme, do you hold a bachelor's degree and are you under 40?
For a doctoral programme, do you hold a master's degree and are you under 45?
Can you start in September 2027 and bring the original degree certificates for verification on arrival? The university requires originals at registration and runs a qualification re-check.
Is your chosen programme taught in Chinese or in English, and can you meet that language requirement? The answer determines which programmes are realistically open to you, and it is set per programme rather than by the scholarship.
The university also advises master's and doctoral applicants to apply to its Chinese Government Scholarship High Level Graduate Program at the same time, because that route is reviewed together with the Dingxin award and gives a second chance at funding.
Deadline: the dates that decide it
Applications run from 1 November 2026 to 30 April 2027. That is a long window by scholarship standards, and the risk it creates is the opposite of a tight deadline: files started in April are usually the weakest ones.
Results are published at the end of June 2027, and admission letters and the JW202 visa form are sent by email in July 2027. Those documents are scanned copies valid for a visa application at a Chinese embassy, with paper originals issued after arrival on campus.
There is no deferral. A student who cannot arrive for the start of the programme loses the scholarship place rather than postponing it.
How to apply
Applications go through the university's own online system rather than a national portal. You register, select the Dingxin Scholarship as the funding source, complete the form, upload the documents and pay the application fee, which is not refunded whether or not you are admitted.
The materials checklist:
Passport valid for the whole study period.
Highest diploma and full transcripts, with notarised or certified translations where they are not in Chinese or English.
A study plan or research proposal, which carries more weight for master's and doctoral applicants than for bachelor's applicants.
Two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors, required for graduate applicants.
The physical examination form for foreigners, completed by a hospital, which is a standard Chinese visa document and one of the slowest to obtain.
Language evidence for the language of instruction of your chosen programme.
Passport-style photographs to the specification in the system.
The university publishes the detailed document requirements on its application-methods page, and the scholarship call itself is on the international students site:

Common mistakes to avoid
The first is applying without checking the age limit. A 41-year-old master's applicant is not assessed on merit; the file is simply outside the scheme, and the same applies to a doctoral applicant over 45.
The second is submitting before contacting a supervisor. At a research-intensive university, an academic who has agreed to take you changes how the file is read, and the strongest applicants make that contact months before the deadline rather than after admission.
The third is treating the medical examination as a formality. It has to be done at a designated hospital in many countries, results take time, and an incomplete health file stalls the visa rather than the admission.
Tips to win
Apply in the first half of the window. Reviewers process files in order, supervision capacity is finite, and a January application competes for places that a June application can only inherit if they remain.
Make the study plan specific to USTB. The university's strength is in materials, metallurgy, mechanical and automation engineering, and a proposal that names a research group or laboratory there reads very differently from a generic statement about studying in China.
Prepare the money question early. The living allowance is real but modest for Beijing, on-campus housing removes the largest single cost, and a clear plan for the difference is what separates applicants who complete the degree from those who leave after a year.
