Fully funded Bachelor scholarship for International students 2026

The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship funds four years of undergraduate study at the University of Toronto for exceptional international students, covering tuition, books, fees and residence.

Eligibility

  • Open to international students in their final year of secondary school, or who graduated no earlier than the previous year, who have never attended a post-secondary institution. A school nomination is mandatory and self-nominations are not accepted.

## The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship: What This Award Actually Covers

The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship is one of the programmes students search for by name, and the search intent is almost always the same: can I qualify, and what do I have to do? This guide answers both from a student's point of view rather than restating the announcement.

The award is aimed at exceptional international secondary school students entering their first year of undergraduate study at the University of Toronto. The single most useful thing you can do before writing anything is check the eligibility rules against your own record, because the majority of rejected applications fail on a formal requirement rather than on merit.

Always read the official programme page before you rely on any summary, including this one: the official Lester B. Pearson Scholarship page

## Eligibility: Run Your Own Self-Check First

Before you invest a week in an application, answer these questions honestly.

- Are you an international student, meaning you are not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person? - Are you currently in your final year of secondary school, or have you graduated no earlier than the previous year? - Have you never attended a post-secondary institution? - Has your school agreed to nominate you? The Pearson programme requires a school nomination and will not accept self-nominations. - Have you applied to the University of Toronto through OUAC by the admission deadline? - Do you meet the University of Toronto English language requirement, usually IELTS 6.5 overall?

If you answered no to any of the formal requirements, stop and look at a different programme rather than trying to explain your way around the rule. Selection committees apply formal criteria before they read a personal statement, so a strong essay cannot rescue an ineligible application.

## Deadline and What the Timeline Really Means

The school nomination deadline is 9 October 2026, the OUAC admission application deadline is 16 October 2026, and the scholarship application deadline is 6 November 2026. Three dates, in that order, and the nomination comes first. If your school does not nominate you, nothing else you do matters.

Treat the published date as the last possible moment, not a target. Two things reliably cause people to miss scholarship deadlines: waiting for a language test result, and waiting for a referee to write a letter. Both depend on other people. Request references at least six weeks early and book your language test before you start the application, not after.

## How to Apply

Ask your school's guidance office to nominate you before 9 October 2026, apply to the University of Toronto through OUAC by 16 October 2026, and complete the Pearson scholarship application by 6 November 2026. Note that the University of Toronto states explicitly that the Pearson programme does not work with educational agents, and that any agent offering Pearson applications for a fee is fraudulent.

## Application Materials Checklist

- School nomination through the official Pearson nomination process - University of Toronto admission application via OUAC - Pearson scholarship application form - Academic transcripts and school reports - Evidence of leadership and community involvement - English language test result, usually IELTS 6.5 overall - Passport copy

## Tips to Win

- Approach your school early and in writing, because nomination places are limited and internal deadlines are earlier still. - Build the case around demonstrated leadership and impact, not grades alone, since the award explicitly selects on exceptionality beyond marks. - Keep the three dates in a single calendar entry and work backwards from the nomination. - Check the University of Toronto English requirement early: it is separate from the scholarship criteria.

The applicants who succeed are rarely the ones with the highest grades. They are the ones whose application answers the specific question the programme is asking, with evidence rather than adjectives. If the programme asks about development impact, give an example with a result. If it asks about research fit, name the work you want to do and who you want to do it with.

## Common Mistakes to Avoid

- Waiting for the school to nominate you rather than actively requesting it well in advance. - Missing the OUAC admission deadline, which sits between the nomination and the scholarship deadline. - Assuming the scholarship application alone is enough without a university admission application. - Paying an agent who claims to handle Pearson applications.

A predictable failure pattern runs through most rejected applications: the candidate checks the headline eligibility criteria but misses one formal document rule, or applies to a version of the programme they are not eligible for. Reading the official call end to end, and comparing it against this checklist, removes almost all of that risk.

## Where to Get Help

Applying to international scholarships with documentation in a second language is where most strong candidates lose time and, sometimes, the opportunity itself. An OEAC advisor can review your eligibility, check that your documents match the required format, and help you work out which of these programmes fits your profile best.

Contact an OEAC advisor before you submit, and we will go through the requirements with you line by line.
