VISTEC Scholarship 2027 in Thailand
Fully funded Master's and PhD scholarship in Thailand for International students 2027
Thailand's VISTEC funds every student it admits: tuition, housing, a stipend and a research budget, with no bond attached. The deadline is 15 February 2027.
Eligibility
- Be in the final year of a relevant bachelor's degree, or already hold one, for a master's place — and hold a relevant master's degree for a PhD place
- Apply to one of four schools: Biomolecular Science and Engineering (BSE), Energy Science and Engineering (ESE), Information Science and Technology (IST) or Molecular Science and Engineering (MSE)
- Hold a degree in a field each school lists as acceptable — chemistry, biology, physics, materials, chemical or electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics and applied sciences all appear across the four schools
- Provide an official English test score from TOEFL, IELTS or CU-TEP; a current score can be uploaded first, but a recognised official result is required before the interview
- Be available for the written examination and interview on 27 February 2027
- Name two referees who will submit letters of recommendation
- Be ready to start in the 2027 academic year — results are released on 31 March 2027
VISTEC is the rare Asian graduate school that does not run a scholarship competition at all. Every student it admits receives the same package, and the package is the reason the institute exists: a privately endowed, research-only university built to keep scientists in Thailand rather than send them abroad. If you have a science or engineering degree and no funding, this is one of the cleanest routes in Asia, and the 2027 window is open right now.
WHAT THE SCHOLARSHIP COVERS
The published package is a full scholarship worth up to THB 5 million across a degree, with no obligation after graduation. In practice that means the university fee is waived, you are given a place in on-campus housing, you receive a monthly stipend of up to THB 20,000, a research budget of up to THB 500,000 to run your project, and up to THB 30,000 for study and education equipment.
Two further lines matter mainly to doctoral applicants. Every student enrolled in a PhD programme receives THB 1 million to support research abroad for up to one year, and PhD students with strong results and good conduct can apply after enrolment for the Royal Srimedhi Scholarship, which adds another THB 1 million and extends the time abroad to two years. The institute also advertises double-degree arrangements with partner universities abroad.
The absence of a bond is the part to read twice. Most fully funded Asian graduate awards require you to return home and work for a fixed period; this one does not. That changes what the degree is for: you are being funded to become a researcher, not to repay a development obligation.
WHO CAN APPLY — AND THE SELF-CHECK THAT MATTERS
VISTEC admits through four schools, and each names its own acceptable degree backgrounds. Biomolecular Science and Engineering takes chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, biology, physics, chemical, biological, environmental and mechanical engineering, pharmacy and medical technology. Energy Science and Engineering and Molecular Science and Engineering take materials science, chemical engineering, polymer science, ceramics, metallurgy, electrical engineering and the core sciences. Information Science and Technology takes physics, mathematics, computer science, and computer, mechanical or electrical engineering, plus IT and ICT degrees.
Run these questions before you open the form:
Are you in the final year of a relevant bachelor's degree, or do you already hold one? Final-year students are explicitly accepted, which means you do not have to wait for graduation to apply.
For a PhD place, do you hold a relevant master's degree? The doctoral route is built on a completed master's, not a direct-entry bachelor's.
Can you produce an English test result? TOEFL, IELTS and CU-TEP are the three accepted. The portal lets you upload a current score and replace it later, but an official result recognised by VISTEC has to be in before the interview date — so book the test now, not after you are shortlisted.
Are you free on 27 February 2027 for the written examination and interview? That date is published and it is not movable.
Can you name two referees who will actually submit? The recommendation form can be downloaded in the portal and sent later, but it must arrive before the interview.
THE DEADLINE
The 2027 admission period runs from 1 October 2026 to 15 February 2027. Interview and written examination notifications go out on 22 February 2027, the examination and interviews take place on 27 February 2027, and results are released on 31 March 2027.
That sequence is short and it is front-loaded. Because the examination date is fixed at 27 February, a file submitted in the final week of the window leaves you roughly a fortnight to prepare for a written test and an interview. Submit in November or December if you can.
HOW TO APPLY, AND WHAT TO HAVE READY
Everything goes through the VISTEC admission system. You may create a maximum of two application forms, so choose your schools deliberately: two related schools is a sensible hedge, four is not an option.

Your materials checklist:
A curriculum vitae. Transcripts covering your degrees to date. A statement of purpose on the form VISTEC provides — it may be submitted later, but no later than the interview day. Two letters of recommendation, also on the VISTEC form, with the same closing point. An official English test score from TOEFL, IELTS or CU-TEP. Optional: publications, awards and honours. Optional: a portfolio or other relevant documents.
Still deciding whether your file is strong enough? Take it to an OEAC advisor before you submit — a second reader on the motivation letter and the transcripts is usually what separates a shortlisted application from a complete one.
WHERE THIS SITS AMONG YOUR OTHER ASIAN OPTIONS
Singapore's SINGA award is the closest comparator for a fully funded doctorate with no bond:

Japan's MEXT route through Tohoku University is the slower, more bureaucratic alternative:

And if you want to stay in Thailand, the ADB-Japan scholarship at AIT covers a master's with a service obligation:

COMMON MISTAKES TO AVOID
Treating the English test as something you can add after a shortlist. It has to be an official result before the interview, and test slots in this region fill weeks ahead.
Applying to four schools. The system caps you at two forms, and a thin application to two schools beats a rushed one to four.
Ignoring the school-specific degree list. A materials engineer applying to Biomolecular Science and Engineering without a biology background is a wasted form.
Assuming the examination is a formality. It is a written test plus an interview, held on a single published date.
Forgetting that the statement of purpose and the references can be submitted late — but not after the interview. "Later" means before 27 February, not after it.
