SuCat Erasmus Mundus 2027 — Fully Funded Sustainable Catalysis Master's
Fully funded Master scholarship in France for All international students students 2027
Erasmus Mundus master's in sustainable catalysis across France, Spain, Portugal and Italy, combining homogeneous, heterogeneous and enzymatic catalysis, with EUR 1,400 a month and fees covered. Applications close 19 February 2027.
Eligibility
- Eurobachelor or equivalent of at least 180 ECTS in chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences or applied chemistry
- Good knowledge of English at CEFR B2, evidenced by TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, Cambridge, PTE or a medium-of-instruction letter
- Two recommendation letters dated in the current academic year
- Motivation letter of no more than one page and a CV of no more than two pages
- No previous Erasmus Mundus joint master's scholarship
Catalysis sits underneath almost every claim about green chemistry. Ammonia, plastics, biofuels, pharmaceutical intermediates and carbon capture all depend on getting a reaction to run faster, at lower temperature, with less waste, and the difference between a laboratory result and an industrial process is usually the catalyst. SuCat is the Erasmus Mundus master that teaches all three families of catalysis together, and its 2027-2029 call opened on 23 October 2026.
What it covers
A scholarship provides a living allowance of EUR 1,400 a month for up to 24 months and a contribution of EUR 18,000 towards the participation costs of the two-year degree, which is the partner-country rate. The money for participation costs is collected by the consortium rather than paid to you, so the part that reaches your account is the monthly allowance. Programme-country students receive a EUR 9,000 contribution against a lower fee level. Over the four cohorts the consortium has 34 partner-country scholarships, 16 programme-country scholarships, 18 NDICI scholarships for neighbouring regions and two IPA scholarships, which is a larger funded pool than most joint masters.
There is a constraint that shapes everything. No more than 10 per cent of the Erasmus Mundus scholarships may go to students of the same nationality across the four cohorts, which the consortium translates as roughly five scholarships per nationality in total. Candidates from large applicant pools are therefore competing for a handful of places rather than for the whole pool, and the composition of each cohort is decided partly by nationality balance.
Who can apply
You need a Eurobachelor or equivalent of at least 180 ECTS in chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences or applied chemistry, with good English. Language ability must be evidenced by an official test, with TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, Cambridge, PTE and their online editions accepted; Duolingo and self-assessment tests are explicitly not accepted. A degree taught entirely in English can substitute, if your university issues a certificate or letter confirming it.
Use this self-check. Does my degree sit inside the listed disciplines, or is it adjacent enough that I need to argue? Do I have a language certificate that is less than two years old? Can two teachers who have actually taught me write letters dated in the 2026-2027 academic year? Is my CV within two pages and my motivation letter within one? And have I held no Erasmus Mundus scholarship before?
The deadline
Applications opened on 23 October 2026 and close on 19 February 2027 at 23:59 Brussels time. There is a single deadline for scholarship and self-funded applicants, and the consortium warns that it receives a very high volume of applications, so files are assessed on academic excellence alone. Results are communicated around April 2027. The consortium is also considering tuition waivers for outstanding non-scholarship students but cannot confirm in advance how many, or at what value.
How to apply
The application form is hosted on the University of Poitiers survey platform and must be completed in English. You will upload your bachelor's diploma or an enrolment certificate if you are in your final year, a full transcript with a grading scale, a Europass CV of no more than two pages, a passport or identity document, a one-page motivation letter, two recommendation letters, and official English evidence. Documents in other languages need certified translations.

Two details cause most rejections at the administrative stage. The recommendation letters must be dated in the current academic year, so a letter written for last year's application is discarded. And the page limits are enforced: a three-page CV or a two-page letter is treated as a non-compliant file and is not reviewed.
Tips to win
Be specific about which catalysis you want. The programme deliberately covers homogeneous, heterogeneous and enzymatic catalysis, and a letter that says "I am interested in green chemistry" tells the committee nothing. Name a reaction class, a characterization technique you can actually run, or an industrial process whose limitations you understand, and connect it to one of the four campuses.
Show that you have handled a laboratory. Practical experience weighs heavily in the selection: internships, a final-year project, a published poster. Describe what you made, what you measured and what failed. A candidate who can explain why a catalyst deactivated has more evidence of research ability than one who lists distinctions.
Common mistakes
Sending a recommendation letter dated last year. Exceeding the CV or motivation-letter page limits. Uploading a Duolingo score, which is not on the accepted list. Applying with a degree outside the listed disciplines without addressing it. And budgeting as if the EUR 18,000 participation contribution were paid to you rather than to the consortium. An OEAC advisor can review your statement and your document set against this programme's own checklist before you submit.
